The 8 Vital Life Zones: A Simple Framework for Self-Reflection

It’s been a while since my last post—not from a lack of interest, but from a lack of time. Over a year ago, I completed my Life & Leadership Coaching certification with ILC Academy. It was an incredible experience that taught me so much about myself—both personally and professionally.

Now that I’ve graduated, I want to use this space to share some of the tools and frameworks I learned during that journey. My hope is that you find them as helpful and thought-provoking as I did.

✨ Introducing the 8 Vital Lifezone Wheel

The first model I want to share is called the “8 Vital Lifezone Wheel.”
It’s a simple but powerful way to check in with yourself and reflect on the different areas of your life.

Here are the 8 vital zones included in the wheel:

1️⃣ Professional area
2️⃣ Support network & friendships
3️⃣ Passion for what I do
4️⃣ Health & nutrition
5️⃣ Intimate relationships
6️⃣ My physical environment
7️⃣ Financial resources
8️⃣ Personal growth

🌱 How It Works

The exercise starts by asking:

“How do you feel in each of these areas right now, compared to how you’d like to feel?”

You can rate yourself on a scale from 1 to 10 (or 0% to 100%). For example:

“In your professional life, from 1 to 10, how satisfied are you compared to where you’d like to be?”

The purpose isn’t to fix anything immediately—it’s simply to take an honest snapshot of your current reality, a kind of x-ray of your life. Once you complete the wheel, you can visualize the balance (or imbalance) between areas.

🚲 A Metaphor That Stuck With Me

My instructor used a metaphor I’ll never forget:

“Imagine your life as a bicycle. If your wheel looked like this one, how smooth would your ride be?”

That image always stayed with me. After doing this exercise with many people (my lovely “guinea pigs”), I can confidently say it works.

Many realized they were investing energy into an area that was already strong—say, an 8/10—while neglecting another that truly needed attention.

💫 Final Thoughts

If you’re curious, take a few minutes to try this exercise yourself.
You might be surprised by what you discover when you pause to look at your life from a broader, more compassionate lens.
